Privacy Policy
Abdstract Group Pty Ltd (ABN 18 682 413 912), trading as Abdstract Studio
Last updated: 13 August 2026
Abdstract Studio is a creative studio and event space in Altona North, Victoria, available for hire for photoshoots, brand campaigns, content production and private events. We take the privacy of our clients, their crews and their guests seriously.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can access, correct or complain about it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
By making a booking, attending the studio, or using this website, you agree to the handling of your personal information as described below.
1. What personal information we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
Enquiry and booking information — your name, email address, phone number, business or brand name, social media handles, and the details of your enquiry or booking (dates, times, session type, number of people attending, and any special requirements).
Payment and financial information — booking fees, hire fees, deposits and security bonds. Card payments are processed by our third-party payment providers; we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
Identification information — where required as a condition of hire, a copy or sighting of photo identification (such as a driver licence) from the person making the booking, together with bond details. We collect this only to confirm identity and to manage the risk of damage or loss to the studio and its props.
Security camera footage — the studio and its entry points are monitored by CCTV. Footage may capture your image while you are on the premises.
Images and recordings created at the studio — photographs, video and behind-the-scenes content of the space, including content in which you or your guests may appear.
Website and technical information — IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring site and similar analytics data collected through cookies and comparable technologies.
Correspondence — records of emails, calls, messages and social media contact with us.
We do not seek to collect sensitive information (such as health information) and ask that you do not send it to us unless it is genuinely necessary for a booking — for example, an access requirement you choose to disclose.
2. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you wherever possible — through our website enquiry and booking forms, our online scheduling system, email, phone, SMS, social media, and in person at the studio.
We may also collect information about you from someone else, for example where a producer, agency or event organiser makes a booking on behalf of a team, or where a client provides the details of guests attending an event. If you have given us someone else’s personal information, please make sure they know we have it and can read this policy.
If you do not provide the information we ask for, we may not be able to confirm your booking, provide access to the studio, or respond to your enquiry.
3. Why we use it
We use personal information to:
respond to enquiries and provide quotes;
take, confirm, schedule and manage bookings, including access arrangements on the day;
process payments, deposits, bonds and refunds, and pursue payment of amounts owing;
verify the identity of the person responsible for a booking;
protect the safety and security of people and property at the studio, and investigate incidents, damage, loss or breaches of our terms;
keep records for insurance, accounting, tax and other legal obligations;
send you information about your booking and, where you have opted in, occasional news and offers from the studio;
maintain and improve our website and services; and
comply with our legal obligations and resolve disputes.
4. CCTV and security monitoring
Security cameras operate in and around the studio, including at entry points and in common and hire areas, to protect the safety of people using the space and to protect the studio, its props and its equipment. Cameras are positioned to monitor the premises and are not installed in any change area, bathroom or other place where a person would reasonably expect privacy.
Footage is retained for a limited period in the ordinary course and is then deleted or overwritten, unless it is required for an incident, insurance claim, dispute, or legal or law enforcement request, in which case it is kept for as long as necessary for that purpose.
Access to footage is restricted to authorised personnel. We may disclose footage to Victoria Police or another authority, to our insurer, or to our legal advisers, where permitted or required by law.
If you have a question or concern about CCTV at the studio, please contact us using the details in section 11.
5. Photography, filming and images
The studio is a working creative space, and imagery matters to how it is presented and hired.
Content we create. We photograph and film the studio, its sets, props and installations for our website, portfolio, social media and marketing. Where reasonably practicable we do this outside client session times. If you or your guests appear incidentally in this content and you would prefer not to, tell us and we will remove or avoid using it.
Content you create. Photographs and footage you produce during your hire are yours. We do not claim ownership of your work.
Sharing your work. We may ask to reshare, repost or feature content created at the studio, and to tag or credit you. We will only do so where you have given us permission, where you have shared it publicly and tagged or credited the studio, or where the content has otherwise been made available to us for that purpose. You can ask us at any time to stop using a particular image or to take down a post that features you, and we will action it as soon as we reasonably can.
Events and guests. If you are hiring the studio for an event, please let your guests know that the space is monitored by CCTV and that photography may take place, and obtain their consent where it is required.
Images of children. We will not publish an identifiable image of a person under 18 in our own marketing without the consent of a parent or guardian.
6. Who we disclose information to
We may disclose your personal information to:
Service providers who run our systems, including our website and hosting platform, our online booking and scheduling system, payment processors, email and communications providers, and cloud storage and file transfer services;
Professional advisers, including our accountant, insurer, insurance broker and lawyers;
Contractors and suppliers engaged in connection with your booking, such as cleaners, technicians, security personnel or stylists, where they need the information to do their job;
Law enforcement and government agencies, where we are required or authorised by law, or where disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect someone’s safety or our lawful interests; and
A purchaser or successor, if the business or its assets are sold or transferred.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not disclose it to third parties for their own marketing.
7. Overseas disclosure
Some of the providers we rely on — including our website platform, booking system, payment processors and cloud storage — store or process data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, but we cannot control the laws of every jurisdiction in which a provider operates.
8. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working properly, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site. Some cookies are set by third parties, including our website platform and analytics providers.
You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies. Some parts of the site may not work as intended if you do.
9. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include restricting access to authorised people, using reputable platforms with their own security controls, and securing physical records at the studio.
No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us over the internet.
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or for as long as we are required to keep it by law — for example, tax and financial records are generally retained for seven years. Identification documents collected for a booking are destroyed once the booking has concluded and any bond has been released, unless there is an outstanding claim or dispute. When information is no longer needed, we destroy or de-identify it.
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will respond in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where required.
10. Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading. Contact us using the details below.
We will respond within a reasonable period, usually within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. In limited circumstances we may refuse access — for example, where giving access would unreasonably affect another person’s privacy, such as CCTV footage that shows other people. If we refuse, we will tell you why in writing and explain how to complain.
There is no charge for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable fee for the time and cost involved in retrieving and providing extensive records.
